Snow Deer

Across the field
of fallen snow
in shadows stands
a quiet doe.

Her silence tells
that all is well
within this hush
of snowy dell.

The only sound
far and near,
the silence of
a spotted deer.

  1. This is really lovely! Standing in my library today, looking out the window across the neighboring corn fields, I saw four deer running through the snow. How perfect to find your poem right after!

  2. Love that last line -- the two meanings of "spotted." Nice. I've got snow to look at, but the only deer today will likely be the ones in your poem.

  3. Thanks, Mary Lee. I appreciate your kind comment.

And what a lovely library you have, Andromeda! Your lucky students have a window to the natural world!
