Snow Deer

Across the field

of fallen snow

in shadows stands

a quiet doe.

Her silence tells

that all is well

within this hush

of snowy dell.

The only sound

far or near,

the heartbeat of

a lonely deer.

  2. Deer and snow--two of my favorite winter things. And the quiet, which is a third. "this hush of snowy dell" is so beautiful. Thank you for that moment!

  3. I love it. This Fall the deer spent
hours in my woodland garden prumimg. During the Winter they hide down in the valley along the White River.
    I miss them.

  6. It's a gorgeous poem about stillness, Charles. That's the theme of my post today, too -- finding quiet winter moments away from the holiday rush.
