My grandson Christopher reading with his mother, my daughter Julie

Piles of Picture Books

I like reading picture books.
I sit and take my time.
I listen to each story.
I listen to each rhyme.

I look at all the pictures.
I take a second look.
I enter each adventure
Inside each picture book.

I ride a magic carpet
To many different places.
I visit with the Wild Things
And other friendly faces.

I runaway with Bunny
Beneath the Goodnight Moon.
I stand in line with Madeline
And eat Green Eggs at noon.

I tag along with Corduroy.
I follow after Ping.
I lose myself each Snowy Day
And find myself each spring.

I like reading picture books.
Each one is like a friend.
When I finish each new book,
I like to start again!

  1. Charles,
This is a beautiful poem. I envy you the little guy sitting on your daughter's lap. What fun you must have sharing poetry and picture books with him.
This poem is sure to end up in an anthology and in classrooms all over the world.

  2. Love this--especially the naming of specific books/characters! And great pic, too:>)

  3. Awh, that's lovely. It's great how many books you got in there.
