Art by Chip Ghigna

Family Tree

My roots are deep within you,
Growing as you grow.
My shade provides the shelter
For the new seeds that you sow.

No matter what the season,
I stand here still the same.
Come winter, spring, or summer,
My branches bear your name.

This is lovely, and the painting too. Is Chip your son?

Very nice. I love the light coming through the branches. Same questions as Linda... your son?

Thank you Linda and Doraine!
Yes, Chip is my son.
He's an art studio major at Auburn University.

Another comment! I loved your son Chip's art, especially the different approaches to trees. Just gorgeous and very alive! And, again, I love the poem, have put it into my notebook! Thanks!

Such a lovely "parent" poem, and how wonderful to have your son illustrate it. Beautiful!

Thoughtful, and very nicely paired with your son's painting.

Did you write it after seeing the painting?

What a lovely poem, Charles!! And Chip's painting is really good. :) When I read your poem, I was reminded of a favorite quote of mine about family: "The family-that dear octopus from whese tentacles we never quite escape nor, in our inmost hearts, ever quite wish to."
